Together, they’ll expose an unspeakable crime, while falling deeper into each other’s arms.
Ex-cop
Gaby Peña now heads security at a private boarding school and never expected a
student to go missing on her watch. Desperate to find the girl, she contacts
The Phoenix Agency.
Nick
Torres is everything she’s wanted in a man, tall, dark, sexy as hell, and
caring. During his time as a SEALs combat medic, he witnessed horrific injuries,
however nothing matches the terror when a kid simply disappears. Moved by
Gaby’s concern for the girl, taken by the remarkable woman she is, he joins her
in a search for the missing teen.
Their
hunt will move from San Antonio to Mexico and back, unearthing a criminal
conspiracy neither could have imagined, and one that will put Gaby’s life in
danger…

TEASERS
He touched
Gaby’s hand, wanting her to know she wasn’t alone in this any longer. He and the
agency would move heaven and earth to make things right. “How long has Isabel been
missing?”
Gaby’s color
drained. “Since late Thursday afternoon.”
Not what he
wanted to hear. It was past noon on Sunday, too many hours having elapsed. “Did
you call the police?”
She sagged
in her chair, pulling her hand from his touch. “Contacting them was the first thing
I did. Mama Blanco called, too. Do you know who she is?”
“Her information’s
in the file. I take it the police here didn’t offer to help.”
“They should
have. The Feds, too. Don’t get me started on them.” She spoke through her teeth.
“Damn fools said she could have run away, and since the local police more or less
refused to become involved, the FBI shouldn’t either. Granted, they don’t know me.
But I spent ten years with the San Antonio Police Department. I’m not a stranger
to them, or a hysterical female who thinks the world’s out to get me or everyone
I know. I even called my old partners.” She squeezed her fists, blanching her knuckles.
“Because Isabel only goes to school in this country and lives across the border,
they said she’s not their problem.”
“She’s not
a citizen?”
“Oh yeah,
she is, even though she was born in Nuevo Laredo.” Gaby pushed her hair behind her
ear. “Her father was a Mexican national, her mom born and raised in Texas. Last
I looked, that still makes her a US citizen according to the law.”
Nick recalled
the data Dan had sent him. “From what I know, I doubt Isabel’s disappearance has
anything to do with her parents’ murder, considering she was only six when it happened.”
“You’re right
there. They, and she, were collateral damage.” Gaby rubbed her forehead. “Nuevo
Laredo is one of the most dangerous places in Tamaulipas. The drug lords don’t care if they kill innocents
during their shootouts and gang wars. I’m sure they don’t even know she exists.”
Which didn’t
leave a lot to go on. Gaby’s police background at the SAPD told Nick she would have
checked out obvious clues as to Isabel’s disappearance. He hated to quiz her about
what she’d done but needed everything he hadn’t had time to glean from Dan’s report.
“Before I ask anything else, I want you to know, I’m not questioning your thoroughness
in this.”
Her features
softened, the warmth back in her eyes. Yearning, too.
Tina’s an Amazon and international bestselling novelist who writes passionate romance for every taste – ‘heat with heart’ – for traditional publishers and indie. Booklist, Publisher’s Weekly, Romantic Times and numerous online sites have praised her work. She’s won Readers’ Choice Awards, was named a finalist in the EPIC competition, received a Book of the Year award, The Golden Nib Award, awards of merit in the RWA Holt Medallion competitions, and second place in the NEC RWA contests. She’s featured in the Novel & Short Story Writer’s Market. Before penning romances, she worked at a major Hollywood production company in Story Direction.
On a less serious note: she’s an admitted and unrepentant chocoholic, brakes for Mexican restaurants, and has been known to moan like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally while wolfing down tostadas. She’s flown a single-engine airplane (freaking scary), rewired an old house using an ‘electricity for dummies’ book, and is horribly shy despite the hot romances she writes.
