He’s cold, calculating, and lethal. A killer.
He’s also my hero.
Finn Decker rescued me from a life in captivity, but not out of mercy. I’m his key to destroying the Bratva leader who shattered both our lives. A pawn in his ruthless game of vengeance.
I should be afraid. I should run.
Instead, I’m drawn to the darkness in his eyes, the craving he ignites, and the promise of retribution he offers. And I realize—I want him to use me in ways that have nothing to do with revenge.
Only, it’s hard to tell if I’m his leverage, his weakness, or something far more dangerous.
His.
Because in a war this savage, there’s no room for mistakes.
It was sharp and vivid, and suddenly, I was drowning in him. In his heat, in his scent, in the way his body caged mine like he was the only thing keeping me upright.
“Don’t lie,” he growled. “You can be pissed at me. You can be scared. You can feel whatever the fuck you want. But don’t pretend you don’t want something more from me. You’ve been clinging to me since the day I took you out of Rykov’s house.”
“Well, I wasn’t angry before.” I lifted my chin and let all my irritation flow into the glare I gave at him. “But now? Yeah. Now, I am.”
“Good. Get angry for a change. Stand up for yourself. Prove you’re not just a victim looking for a goddamn savior.”
“You think that’s what I want from you? That I’m so weak and desperate I can’t stand on my own?” The words tumbled out, fueled by a courage I didn’t recognize. A fire I’d never dared stoke before.
“No, Lena,” he growled. “I think you’re a thousand times stronger than you know. And I think if you knew me at all, you’d understand why friendship isn’t something I can give you.”
“But you’re friends with Robin.”
“I don’t want to fuck Robin.” His voice was rough. Like the words had clawed their way up his throat.
And they stunned me.
My mouth opened, but nothing came out. Was I even still breathing?
He twisted my arm higher up my back—the dull pinch of it, reminding me I was at his mercy. “I can’t be your friend. Because every time you get close, it gets harder to hold back. Harder to pretend I’m not about to lose my fucking mind.”
His hold loosened, just slightly, like he was about to let me go. But before I could process it, his fingers flexed, and in a swift, merciless motion, he’d wrenched my other arm behind my back, pinning both wrists in one unyielding hand.
“You want something safe. Someone stable. But that’s not who I am.” His free hand slid up to wrap around my throat, his fingers pressing into the side of my neck. “This is the kind of man I am.”
And God, despite the edge of fear, despite the voice in my head telling me to run, my panties were soaked.
He leaned in, his mouth hovering at my ear and breath rough against my skin. “What I want is to tie you up and then take you apart. Slowly. Thoroughly. Until you forget every man who ever came before me. I want to ruin you for anyone that isn’t me. Then build you back up from the wreckage. Stronger. Fiercer. Like the queen I already see when I look at you.”
He paused, his breath hitching. “And then do it again. And again. And a-fucking-gain.”
Author Bio:
Kimberly is a contemporary romance author, born procrastinator, and lover of morally gray heroes. She enjoys lively conversations, usually with imaginary people, and can often be found daydreaming at work.
She writes gritty, messy, dangerous romances, featuring beautifully flawed characters, pursuing love at all costs. It's romance with rough edges.
When she’s not busy writing, you can find her with a coffee in hand, dog at her side, and exploring the wilds of her hometown in Ontario, Canada… Or on her couch, getting lost in a good story.
Lost in His Spiderwebs is the second book in the Lozano Cartel series,
where we dive into the lives of Rubén Lozano and Drina Cabrera in a dark,
second-chance romance neither one of them saw coming.
Rubén is not someone you want to
cross. A cold, calculating cartel kingpin, he’s willing to do whatever it takes
to achieve his goals. Flip the coin and you got Drina—a widowed mother who’s
raising her daughter alone while struggling to keep the darkness of her own
mother’s anti-cartel resistance group out of their lives. These two couldn’t be
more different. But when Drina’s world falls apart, she finds herself tangled
in a dangerous cartel web, with none other than Rubén as her unlikely savior.
The twist? He’s the one man she’s tried to forget.
Rubén and Drina are introduced as
secondary characters in Dark
Hearts Aflame, the first book in the series. From the moment Rubén
showed up on the page, I knew he deserved his own story, but at first, I
couldn’t figure out who his heroine would be. After playing around with a few
ideas and scrapping them, inspiration finally struck—Drina! She was the perfect
fit for him. I’ve always loved the “opposites attract” trope, so I started
plotting their story with her as his love interest. But something just didn’t
feel right. At this point, Rubén and Drina were complete strangers when they
meet in Chapter One, and that bothered me. There wasn’t enough depth or
chemistry between them to make the story truly compelling.
I spent weeks, literally weeks,
brainstorming how to make this connection feel real. And then, it hit me.
Second-chance romance! Another favorite trope. What if Rubén and Drina had a
past? What if they were once lovers, and he’s the father of her daughter,
though he doesn’t know it? That idea sparked everything I needed to take the
story in a fresh direction.
Once that major plot point clicked
into place, the rest of the book came together more smoothly. Of course, I had
to refine and cut a few elements for pacing and word count, but the final
result is a dark, intense, and deeply emotional romance that fits perfectly
within the genre.
Lost in His Spiderwebs is now available for preorder
and will officially release on October 14, 2025. I’m already working on the
next book, Corrupting His
Wife, which is currently in the draft phase. The Lozano Cartel series
will span several standalone novels, so be sure to subscribe to my newsletter
or follow me on social media to stay updated. In the meantime, add Lost in His Spiderwebs
to your reading list. You won’t want to miss it!
Blurb:
The cartel king has finally found his queen.
Kidnapped by the enemy. Bought by the jefe.
Will his smoldering touch thaw her frozen heart?
Rubén Lozano, the new leader of the Lozano Cartel, craves peace amidst a legacy of bloodshed and death. He never expected to find his ex-lover, Drina Cabrera, in the clutches of his vicious rivals. Her haunted eyes compel him to rescue her, but freeing her is another matter.
After five months of captivity, Drina trades one captor for another. Though she succumbs to Rubén’s masterful touch, the bittersweet memory of her daughter and the life she was stolen from is a constant wedge between them.
When Rubén’s darkest secret comes out, he will have to wash his hands in crimson. Will Drina let her king face the danger alone, or stand at his side as his cartel queen?
–Book two in the dark romance series, the Lozano Cartel. All the books can be read as a standalone, but are part of an interconnected series.
–Scenes featuring forced seduction, drug distribution, torture/violence, kidnapping/captivity, and attempted sexual assault may be uncomfortable for some readers.
–No cheating and HEA guaranteed!
–Written in 3rd POV.
Excerpt:
He kissed her forehead,
snatched up his pants, and withdrew a crinkly foil packet from his wallet to
rip open. “If it didn’t take seven days for birth control to
become effective, I would take you bareback.” He slid on the condom and slammed home between her thighs.
Air
clogged her throat. His skin flared hot beneath her desperately gripping
fingers. He filled her so completely. It hurt, an erotic blend of pleasure
and pain snapping through her. The kind that made her feel alive. Wanted.
Desired. She wrapped her legs around him. He shifted his hips, stroking deeper
and stretching her more than any man ever had—including himself.
The room
blurred, the light and shadow a never-ending swirl of sensual bliss. The sound of their bodies slapped together in
sharp harmonious bliss, the past and present colliding. Sweat slicked their skin, aiding
their fast, rough slide and joining them as one.
“Harder,”
she begged.
“You’re
so tight.” He rammed his hips against hers, growling like an animal. “Tomorrow,
you will feel me in every step you take. You won’t be able to sit without
squirming.”
Dirty
talk! Perfect. Just what she wanted. She met his every thrust, giving as good
as she got, and squeezed her thighs to pin him inside her.
Another
growl ripped from his mouth. “You’re hotter than fire, Drina.”
Her
heart soared. “Damn right.” He grabbed her legs and pushed them back over her
head, spreading them so wide she feared she’d never be able to close them. “¡Dios mío!” she
shouted, the prayer and curse wrapped into one. The tension coiling in her belly tightened.
Licks of fiery heat raced under her skin. So close. Almost there. Just a little
more. She tilted her hips, altering her rhythm. As he thrust again, he struck
her so deep that a supernova blasted behind her eyes. Shouting at the top of
her lungs, she arched her back and smashed her breasts against him.
“Fuck,
fuck, fuck,” he chanted, rutting harder, then finding his own relief.
“Rubén!”
Tremors seized her, the feel of him in her arms, her lifeline in the storm.
Exhaustion liquefied her bones. Pliant beneath him, she grunted as he thrust
twice more before he released her legs and rolled away to sprawl out beside
her. Cool air assailed her raw, tender core. She pressed her legs together, her
thigh muscles twitching.
Breathing
heavily, Rubén flung his arm over his eyes. “You okay?”
“I-I
think so,” she croaked and coughed to steady her voice. “That was incredible.”
“Told you.”
Laughing, she swatted his
arm and scooted closer to lay her head on his heaving chest. “I’ve edited romance
books with sex scenes like this. They’re always my favorite.”
“Books?”
He stiffened and lightly rested his hand on her shoulder as though unsure where
to touch her.
“Before
my life turned upside down, I was an editor for a publishing company. I’ve read
so many wonderful stories and helped get them published. You cannot imagine
that sense of accomplishment. Err—maybe you can,” she amended. He hadn’t fought
his way to the top of his chosen field without celebrating who knew how many
achievements. “I had over ten full-time authors on my roster, who I’m sure were
transferred to other editors after I disappeared.”
“Writing
and literature, I remember you studying that in school.”
“It
seems
like a lifetime ago.”
He sighed, then slid out
from under her and swung his feet to the floor. The muscles in his back rippled
as he grabbed his pants and stood to step into them.
“You’re leaving?” Her heart
sank. She’d just told herself to keep that foolish organ away
from him, yet she brought up her past as though they would cuddle and indulge in pillow talk as they had used to. She was his captive, not his
girlfriend. She pulled the sheet around her as his cold, detached gaze skewered
her like chips of ice.
After he dressed and left his shirt undone, he clutched
the spent condom in one hand and crushed his lips to hers in a bruising kiss—a
reminder of his authority, of who held the power in whatever it was between
them. Then he walked out through the connecting narrow doorway for his room,
leaving her alone with the silence and soiled sheets. And worst of all—regret.

Just like yesterday, his palm pressed against my throat, but this time he didn’t squeeze. His thumb brushed up and down over my pulse point. His skin trembled against my own—warm, firm, unyielding, and yet somehow vulnerable too. Maybe that was what drew me to him, because it wasn’t rational how much I wanted him closer, his arms around me, his body against mine.
We were suspended like that for seconds…minutes. It could have been hours. Somehow deep inside, I felt protected for the first time in forever. It didn’t make sense. It didn’t have to, but in my jailer’s arms, in this moment, the void melted away and lightness spread. I wanted more, but the instant I reached for him, before I even touched him, he jerked away.
He cleared his throat.
“Never ask that of me again.”
“Or what?”
He stomped across the room and threw the door open so hard it crashed against the wall and skittered back in scattered croaks.
A strangled laugh choked out of me. Pain shot up my side, and tears seeped under my eye dressings. None of this was funny, but his switch in moods was giving me whiplash, especially after the lightness of that memory.
“You don’t possess a touch of sunshine, do you? You’re angry. Tormented, so you hide behind violence thinking it makes you so tough, but you’re nothing but a big ol’ grump, trying to spread his own misery.”
“You know nothing about me.”
He didn’t stick around for my rebuttal. The door battered the frame on his way out, and the lock clicked loudly into place. His absence left me lonelier than before, and I wasn’t quite sure how to feel about that. One thing I was almost certain of though. He didn’t really want to kill me. The next time I saw him, I’d put that to the test.

is an Interracial (Hispanic woman/white man) dark romantic suspense novel in
the Lozano Cartel series. All the books can be read as a standalone, but are
part of an interconnected series.
– Scenes featuring torture/violence, kidnapping, attempted
assault, infertility issues, child abuse (discussed), and suicide (discussed)
may be uncomfortable for some readers.

– Written in 3rd POV.
Excerpt:
Carmen trailed her lips down
his chest and nibbled on his hard nipples before she dropped back to her knees.
Every nerve ending in his
body twitched. Her mouth enclosed over his cock with all the skill of a
seductress out to get what she wanted. Finally. It was about damn time he met a
woman as ravenous as him. He fisted her hair with one hand and gripped the post
for leverage with the other. He trembled all the way down his legs. She tugged
his heavy ball sac so damn gently that he cursed. Hunger gnawed in his veins.
Everything about her drove him insane—her smile, her melodic laughter, her
mouthwatering body, even her godawful singing. Fucking hell. He needed inside her.
Now! On the verge of shooting a liquid cannonball, he jerked her back up.
She moaned and blinked
rapidly, her mouth slack.
He hauled her onto his
shoulder and stomped toward a haystack.
“Oh!” Carmen giggled,
clinging to his back. “No one has ever picked me up before. I’m tall for a
woman. Most men cannot find the right leverage to lift me.”
He snorted. She couldn’t be
more than five-feet-ten. The weaklings she’d welcomed into her bed deserved the
slice of his blade for damn sure. He settled her on the edge of a waist-high
hay bale and slid into heaven. Sparks danced in his vision. Her sharp gasp
pierced his eardrums. Pressure pounded through him as he gripped her hips and
thrust hard. The clench of her legs around his waist spurred him on. Her pussy
convulsed around him, milking and demanding everything he had to give—and then
some.
“¡Ay, Dios mío!
That’s so good, Bristol. Más. More.”
